Climate Change
There is much debate about whether human made causes are having an impact on climate processes on a global scale. Ongoing research, while showing much variability with the Earth's climate over time, does show evidence that human causes are having an impact on global climate patterns. Life on this planet lives in a narrow band and any changes to this can impact our natural environment and the species that live in it. Climate change effects are impacting low-lying small island nations first, as many of these communities reside only a few feet above sea level and are highly dependent on their natural resources for food and livelihoods. Many of these communities are taking active steps such as conserving mangrove stands and coral reefs to help protect the shoreline and though these communities contribute minimally to the sources of climate change, they will be among the first to become climate refugees as their island home will become uninhabitable. An example of this is a island community in Papua Guinea, click here for more information.
